John’s potato is a real character

A Dalton pensioner got a surprise when he dug up an odd looking potato in his garden.

Gardening enthusiast, John Bell, of Coronation Drive, thinks the pink fur apple potato looks like a cartoon character.
Mr Bell, 83, said: “This particular variety does grow in many different shapes.”
The potato, which is usually eaten cold with salad, isn’t the only vegetable Mr Bell, who used to work at Barrow cemetery, grows.
He added: “I mainly grow potatoes, onions and beetroot. I also like to grow flowers.”
