Nigel Haworth, Simon Rogan and other star chefs head to area for ‘unique’ fundraiser

SOME of Britain’s top chefs are heading to Furness for a one-off charity event.
Lake District Farmers hope to raise more than £20,000 for local charities by hosting the One Week Only culinary extravaganza next year.
Taking place at Clarence House in Dalton over five nights in February, the event will see eight chefs – who have amassed nine Michelin stars between them – cooking complex five-course menus.
Dan Austin, managing director of the Lindal-based company, said they wanted to bring some of the top chefs in the UK to the area to raise money for charities that help those with serious illnesses.
He said: “This event is absolutely unique. We are just waiting on confirmation from a surprise guest but the eight chefs who are taking part have nine Michelin stars between them.
“We are certain that is going to go up to 11. There has never been anything like this to take place in Cumbria and I’m not sure there has been anything like this done across the country.”
Guests will sign up to a menu and the identity of the chef cooking it will not be revealed until the night. The eight chefs confirmed so far are Alyn Williams, Angela Hartnett, Andre Garrett, Andy Cook, Luke Rayment, Paul Ainsworth, Nigel Haworth and Simon Rogan.
Students from Furness College and chefs from Clarence House, who have given up the restaurant to the event, will also get the chance to work with the chefs.
Organisations that will benefit from the event include Ulverston’s St Mary’s Hospice and Ostley House in Barrow.
Mr Austin said: “Everybody who is going to be working at the event has made a big commitment and they all want to be involved. We drew inspiration from our chairman Ray Armstrong’s charitable donations that he has made for many years.”
